American Red Cross (ARC) Courses

We are proud to offer First Aid classes at our offices and in other parts of Rochester. In one class, we include Basic First Aid, Adult CPR/AED, Child and Infant CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Training.

BASIC FIRST AID
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross (ARC) Basic First Aid Course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to first aid emergencies to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. The ARC Basic First Aid Course offers instruction in First Aid for adults, children and infants to meet the various training needs.
Note: This course can be combined with the Adult CPR/AED and Child CPR/AED Courses if desired.
Learning Objectives

Identify the signals of common sudden illnesses.

Describe how to care for common sudden illnesses.

Describe how to care for someone who is having a seizure.

Identify the signals of heat-related illnesses and cold-related emergencies.

Describe how to care for heat-related illnesses and cold-related emergencies. Explain how to care for head, neck and spinal injuries.

Identify signals of various soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries.
-
Describe how to care for various soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries.
-
Explain how to care for muscle, bone or joint injuries.

Demonstrate how to control external bleeding.
An American Red Cross certificate/card will be issued to each student upon successful completion of the course. Those who complete the training receive a Basic First Aid Training certification valid for two years.
Duration of Class: 2 hours
Certification Period: 2 years
ADULT CPR/AED
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross (ARC) Adult CPR/AED Course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. The ARC Adult CPR/AED Course offers instruction in CPR and AED courses for adults to meet the various training needs.
Note: This course can be combined with the Child and Infant CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Courses if desired.

CHILD AND INFANT CPR/AED

The purpose of the American Red Cross (ARC) Child and Infant CPR/AED Course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill, child or infant until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. The ARC Child and Infant CPR/AED Course offers instruction in CPR and AED courses for children and infants to meet the various training needs.
Note: This course can be combined with the Adult CPR/AED and the First Aid Courses if desired.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS (BBP) TRAINING
Purpose
The American Red Cross (ARC) Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Training is designed for those who are at risk for on the job exposure to blood and other bodily fluids in the workplace. The ARC BBP Training course teaches staff how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to avoid exposure and what to do if exposed to infectious material.
Learning Objectives

What bloodborne pathogens are and how they are spread.

How to help prevent exposure incidents by following work practice controls, using engineering controls and personal protective equipment (PPE), practicing good personal hygiene, and properly cleaning and disinfecting equipment and supplies.

How to recognize, report and follow up on employee exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials.

Inform and equip the individual for proper understanding, handling, and disposal of blood spills, cuts, etc.

Explain the conditions needed for a pathogen to enter an individual.

Understand more about topics such as Hepatitis B and C, and HIV.
This course is one of the requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and meets OSHA requirements for annual Bloodborne Pathogens training. After taking this course, students should talk with their employers about their workplace’s specific policies and procedures. You should meet with your employer representative to answer questions about how this training content applies to your workplace.
An American Red Cross certificate/card will be issued to each student upon successful completion of the course. Those who complete the training receive a Bloodborne
Pathogens Training certification valid for one year.
